Workington Comets 53 Somerset Rebels 41

The Comets came out winners in the top of the table clash against Somerset  at Derwent Park on Saturday night.

Already hampered by the loss of heat leaders Tomas Topinka & Peter Kildemand the Comets then also lost James Wright early on following a heavy fall in the first heat when Travis McGowan fell in front of him.

James managed to take two rides before being withdrawn from the meeting. We wish James all the best for a speedy recovery.

Workington Comets 60 Rye House 34

Workington Comets unbeaten home record continued in impressive form with an emphatic victory over Rye House on Saturday night.

The rain had threatened this fixture as dark clouds loomed overhead but in the end the match was able to go ahead.

James Wright top scored for the Comets with 14+1 dropping only a single point to Rich Lawson in Heat 10, the Comets duo getting off to a perfect start in Heat 1 with a 5-1.

Heat 2 was another 5-1 for the Comets with Kenny Ingalls taking the victory from Charles.

Workington Comets 57 Berwick Bandits 36

With another large crowd at Derwent park it’s good to see the fans are continuing to support the team, along with a bus load of Bandits fans which made the atmosphere.

Workington Comets 50 Redcar Bears 40

As we started the season off with a 48-42 point away win at Redcar most people though the Comets would run away with this one but the Bears put up a decent fight and pushed for points right to the end. Gary Havelock’s men actually led the meeting for the first 4 heats until we hit back with a Topinka, Rusty 5-1 in heat 5.

The Comets came up against a Witches Team that was obviously smarting from their home defeat the week before and had a big point to prove.

None of the lads could work out a set up that could effectively deal with the reshaped Foxhall Stadium and they felt the backlash of the Witches.

A tough night for all the Comets riders and fans who made the trip...

Workington Comets 55 - Sheffield Tigers 37

The Comets ended the night with 3 BIG points as Sheffield are a team highly thought of by most in this year’s PL. The Tigers put us under a lot pressure early on in the meeting but towards the end of the night the Comets really shone to prove why we are many peoples favourite for the title.

Workington Comets 59 Scunthorpe Scorpions 37

Workington Comets got off to a flyer in the 2011 Premier League Campaign. Facing Scunthorpe who have suffered mixed fortunes in the last couple of matches meant the Comets could not be complacent.

Redcar Bears 42 - Workington Comets 48

Workington Comets started the 2011 season with a strong showing at highly rated Redcar on Thursday night in a Challenge Match.

James Wright top scored for the Comets with 13 points but it could have been more had he not had bike problems in Heat 13. He explained "an exhaust bracket broke and dropped down, effectively acting as an anchor as it dug into the track".
