Press Release No 20

WORKINGTON COMETS 2010
SPONSORED BY THE THOMAS ARMSTRONG
AND NEW TEAM PARTNERS
PRESS RELEASE No 20- April 27th

PETER Kildemand tackles his second Danish Championship this weekend – but he will still be riding for Workington Comets.

Kildemand is inolved in the Danish Under-21’s Championship on Friday, ahead of the Comets trip to Stoke on Saturday night to open their Premier League programme.

Last week-end he finished second in the main Danish Championship quarter final after a run-off against Newcastle’s Kenni Larsen.

Workington team manager Ian Thomas said: “Peter did very well to reach the semi-final of the national Championship so he will be looking for a big performance in the Under-21’s.

“He has a flight booked to get into Stansted on Saturday and he will then drive up to Stoke for the match at night.

“I don’t think there should be a problem even though some people are stranded abroad from the volanic ash fiasco.”

Thomas is still not certain whether number one Andre Compton will be able to resume as he recovers from a shoulder injury picked-up at Edinburgh a little over ten days ago.

“I spoke to Andre today and although the shoulder is getting better he said that he wouldn’t have been able to ride tonight. He has been out and about on a trials bike to test how he felt.

“If all goes to plan he intends to ask Sheffield if he can go there for a spin on Thursday night. I will speak to him afterwards and then we will take it from there. If need be we will have to book a guest,”he said.

Workington race at Stoke on Saturday night and then stage the return at Derwent Park on Monday evening (7pm).

Stoke, who have made a slow start to the season, have also had their injury problems but it looks as though Jason Bunyan will be fit to resume against the Comets.

“Jason is good value around Derwent Park. In fact he’s good value round most places so that will undoubtedly strengthen the Potters,” said Thomas.
Workington Comets fans have been thrilled by the early season form of reserve Craig Cook who should soon be riding in the body of the main team.

He produced his best-ever perfomance for the Comets last Saturday in the 53-43 home win over Glasgow Tigers, scoring 18 points (six wins) from seven rides and being only two fifths of a second outside the track record held by Kevin Doolan.

Cook has set out his targets for the season – ending it as a Workington heat leader and also being given a guesting opportunity at reserve in the Elite League.
“I know I have still a lot to learn but I want to keep on progressing. I need to do better on some of the away tracks if I am to achieve my heat leader goal.

“I think getting an opportunity in the Elite League would not only test the water for me but show people what I have to offer,” he said.

Cook was at Belle Vue on Monday intending to have a spin after the meeting but there was a problem with his bikes and that outing didn’t happen. There’s not much doubt that it will in the near future.
