Workington Comets suffered further injury blows in their narrow loss to Edinburgh last night. Tomas had a bizarre parade lap crash and the Comets captain will unfortunately miss out on tonights visit of the Rebels. Rider replacement will operate for Tomas.

Peter Kildemand who was riding in Denmark also sustained an injury and will not take part in tonight's match either. Redcar's Matej Kus has been booked as a guest to replace Peter. No further details of Peter's injury are available at the moment.

Workington Comets won the top of the table clash against Somerset tonight at Derwent Park 53-41.

The Comets lost James Wright early on follwing a heavy fall in the first heat when Travis McGowan fell in front of him. James managed to take two rides before being withdrawn from the meeting. We wish James all the best for a speedy recovery.

Matej Kus promised much before the match  but was disappointing on the night, managing only one heat win.

Clash of the big guns!

The Comets travel to Foxhall to face title favourite’s Ipswich, however the Witches have already been rocked at the hands of the Somerset Rebels who have beaten them both home and away!

We’ve had a very promising start to the season with two very solid home wins so the lads will be keen to give the premier league new boys a run for their money.

Newport Wasps 43 - Workington Comets 50

Workington Comets 57- Newport Wasps 38

The Comets did the double over Newport on Friday & Saturday nights in both away & home meetings.

This moved the Comets up to second in the Premier League.

Workington Comets announced at the match against Berwick on Easter Monday that talented American Kenny Ingalls will return to the Comets starting line up following further surgery to remove the screws from the plate in his right leg.

Kenny will be named in the line up for the match at Newport on Friday 29th April.

"We look forward to him carrying on and improving from where he left off last season" said promoter Keith Denham.

Tonight's match against Edinburgh has been called off because of the threat of heavy rain which is forecast to fall from 6pm onwards.

Keith Denham has confirmed that Kenny Ingalls will not start the season for the Comets."Kenny's appointment with the medical people was brought forward to this week in an attempt to get to the root of the issue with the pain he suffers when riding in certain situations" Keith explained. "The upshot is that the rod that was inserted into Kenny's leg following the accident at Berwick needs to be removed and Kenny is scheduled to have an operation on April 6th to have the rod removed and will undergo intensive therapy thereafter.

Saturday 26th March saw the 2011 Comets taking to the track on a glorious sunny day at Derwent Park.Sadly the day was overshadowed by Kenny Ingalls' being sidelined due to his leg still not being wholly recovered from his horror crash at Berwick last season. The remaining Comets took to the track with new silencers and the general impression was that there is some reduction in noise but overall the fans experience will not be diminished and the Comets look well prepared for the forthcoming season.

The Americans are coming to Workington to feature in a double header on April 16th.

The 'Travel Plus Tours' American Touring Team is once more back on UK shores for another short but intense tour of the UK. The popular traveling team, formerly known as the Dream Team, is gearing up to once more showcase young talent and long time veterans up and down the country.

A busy Weekend Ahead For Workington Comets and their fans.

Kenny Ingalls makes his 2011 debut for the Comets making his comeback from a leg injury, meanwhile Alex Davies also returns to join his Newport team mates after fracturing a vertebrae.

The Comets make the long trip to Wales on Friday night and 24 hours later the Wasps do the reverse and travel to Workington for the return Fixture.

Glasgow Tigers have announced that the Comets fixture due to take place on Sunday April 10th has been postponed due to issues arising from the recent track improvement works. The full statement can be found here

Redcar Bears 42 - Workington Comets 48

Workington Comets started the 2011 season with a strong showing at highly rated Redcar on Thursday night in a Challenge Match.

James Wright top scored for the Comets with 13 points but it could have been more had he not had bike problems in Heat 13. He explained "an exhaust bracket broke and dropped down, effectively acting as an anchor as it dug into the track".

Workington Comets 59 Leicester Tigers 31

A late decision was taken to run the match following a prolonged downpour, however credit must go to both teams for completing the meeting.

The Comets adapted to the conditions better than the Lions and after an even start they pulled away to take all three points on offer to cement their position at the top of the Premier League.

Full match report and scorecard to follow.

After Thursday night’s defeat at Ipswich the boys will be keen to make amends against Scunthorpe Scorpions, who on the opening night at Derwent Park  were well beaten by the Comets by 22 points.

Here’s hoping the boys can do the double on them this Friday!

Scunthorpe will be using Sheffield’s Hugh Skidmore as a guest for the injured Tero Aarnio and the rider replacement facility for Carl Wilkinson. Newcastle’s Richie Worrall will also replace his brother Steve, who is away on Under 21 duty.
